The Chemistry Society, St. Stephen’s College, aims to take teaching and learning chemistry beyond classroom lectures and aims to spread awareness among the students regarding the seminal role of chemistry in modern life.
Being one of the most fundamental and respected societies in college, the society has enjoyed the appreciation of students and the faculty. In addition to a number of chemistry central events, the society releases an annual journal OXYGEN, and also a bimonthly newsletter MEGAPHONE, which is always an enjoyable and informative read.

The Inaugural Lecture is the keynote event of the Chemistry Society that invites eminent professors from across the nation and the globe as Guest Speakers, to enlighten the students about the various fields of research and study in chemistry, and to also share their research experiences. This year’s Guest Speaker was Dr. Chinmoy Kumar Hazra, Assistant Professor, IIT Delhi who talked about “Metal-free activation of small molecules for the conversion of feedstock chemicals to value-added products”.
Report of Inaugural Lecture 2022
The Chemistry Society’s Scholars’ Meet is a relatively new initiative in which former students from the department are invited to share with the present batches of students the various roles, tasks and fields they are working in. Alumni and students discuss internship, scholarship, and research opportunities that are available across the domains. This discussion is inclusive of alumni coming from diverse fields not only limited to chemistry, with the aim of giving valuable exposure to the students about future opportunities and career options.
