ST STEPHEN’S YOUNG LEADERS
NEIGHBOURHOOD-FIRST FELLOWSHIP (YLNF 2.0) – 2023
The Fellowships are designed to offer eligible young professionals from friendly countries in the South Asian region an opportunity to study Public Policy and its implementation through classroom interaction and practical study visits. The intention is to help young leaders, with potential from these countries, address situations and issues in their respective countries by learning from best practices in India offered through the best teachers, leaders and professionals in their respective fields.
The St Stephen’s Fellowships are offered to young professionals in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Myanmaar, Nepal and Sri Lanka who are keen on increasing their knowledge, widening their network, augmenting their skillsets and refining their administrative potential through a structured program of study and interaction including site-visits and a short research paper.
St Stephen’s Fellowships offer dynamic training in negotiations, professional development and provides opportunities for individuals to spend time in India, studying the nuances of Public Policy and Administration, researching on subject matters that are relevant to their professional interest/s as well as to understand India’s international strategic priorities and to use these best practices as case studies to enhance their personal knowledge and improve their professional performance.
Programme Fellows are expected to carry the training and experience gained over the three months to their home countries for adaptive implementation as per their own cultural, economic and social needs.
DURATION:
Three-month long, residential programme, inclusive of two study trips.
METHODOLOGY:
Lectures, interactive presentations and hands-on learning from Policy initiators, implementors and practitioners are the main processes by which instruction is carried out. Through extensive classroom teaching, interaction and hands-on experience in Public Policy, Negotiations, Diplomacy, Law, Energy & Education, the Fellowship will give participants an intimate understanding and experience of these subjects which can then help them adapt the knowledge gained to local situations and issues in their country. The Fellowships are intended to help nurture future leadership in these countries.
PROGRAM COMPONENTS AND MODULES:
- Leadership and Administration.
- Public Policy and Law.
- Sessions on Education, Environment and Energy.
- Exposure visits to Delhi and one neighbouring state.
- Interactions with Ministers and Ministries.
- Training on negotiations and diplomacy.
- Field visits at district collectorates.
- Site visits to projects.
- Understanding Indian cultures, protocol, networking and tourism and traditions.
- Identification of a relevant research topic, preparation and theses submission.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE:
- Citizen of a friendly South Asian country.
- Must hold a Graduate degree.
- Not more than 35 years old.
- Must have a minimum of five years of work experience in a relevant field.
- Demonstrate potential to benefit from the Fellowship and demonstrate personal, intellectual and interpersonal attributes reflecting this potential.
- Have a commitment to implement the learnings of the Fellowship in the home country.
- Meet all program-specific requirements including the St Stephen’s Language Proficiency Test.
- Must not hold Indian citizenship.
- Should not have received any Indian government funding in the last five years.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
The St Stephen’s YLNF Fellowship applicants must ensure that they meet the minimum work experience requirement for the fellowship program before submitting their application.
The types of work experience that are eligible for the St Stephen’s fellowship can include full-time employment and part-time employment.
APPLICATION PROCESS:
Applications are to be made through the ITEC portal (Use APPLY NOW Button). Indian Embassies/Missions in each country will provide necessary support. Once the application is made candidates will then go through a Language Proficiency Test and an interview. These are essential components of the selection process and successful candidates for the Fellowships are expected to clear both with at least a 50% score in each of the components.
