LAWN TENNIS (Women)

Inter College:

St Stephens College women’s Lawn Tennis team took part in the Inter-college held in Lady Shri Ram for the year 2015-2016 . The college lost in the quarter finals after putting up a tough fight against Miranda House .

State Award:

Rhea David of IInd year History won Vikram Award , 2015 . It is the highest level of recognition given to a sports person by government of Madhya Pradesh with a cash prize of Rs.1 Lakh She received this award for the sport of soft tennis.

National Level:

Sanya registered a double win in AITA  tournament in Karnal Tournament in February 2015 .  She was the winner in both the singles and doubles section.

She also travelled to the AITA  tournament in Secundrabad ,Hyderabad in January 2015 . She reached the quarterfinals of the singles event .

International Tournaments:

Sanya Madan of IIIrd year Philosophy Traveled to Gemany for training and tournaments in May-July 2015 . She trained at BASF Tennis Club, Wieherstrasse , Ludwigshafen ,Germany.  Sania was selected to represent the Mutterstadt club for the summer season of 25th May – 31st July, 2015 in Verbandsliga League . She played as the number 1 Seed in the team.

Sania participated in a couple of Tournaments in Germany.

At the Schifferstadt  Tournament from 22nd-26th July for 5000 euro . Sanya finished as a runner up .

At the Mutterstadt Club Tournament, from 26th june – 1 July Sania Madan won the Runner up position .

Inter College:

The college team made an early exit from the Inter College Tournament organized by Delhi University due to a first match loss.

AITA and National Events:

Mayank Yadav of Ist B.A (Prog) took part in the AITA Men’s National Ranking Tournament in Delhi 8th June 2015. He reached the Quarter Finals.

Mayank Yadav of Ist B.A (Prog) took part in the AITA Under 18 Boys National Ranking Tournament in Delhi 6th July 2015. He reached the Semi Finals. He lost to Anurag Nenwani 4-6, 5-7.

Mayank Yadav of Ist B.A (Prog) took part in the AITA Men’s National Ranking Tournament in Chandigarh 13th July 2015. He topped the qualifying draw and reached the Main Draw where he lost to Rubal Schandalia.

Mayank Yadav of Ist B.A (Prog) took part in the AITA Men’s Nationals Tournament in Chennai, where the countries ranked players take part for the National Championships. 17th Aug 2015. He reached the Second Round after beating Eklavya Singh of Jharkhand 6-4, 6-4.

Mayank Yadav of Ist B.A (Prog) took part in the AITA Men’s National Ranking Tournament in Karnal 14th September 2015 and later again from 28th September. He was among the top eight to qualify for the main draw. Mayank made it to the Pre Quarter Final Round where he lost to Ankit Chopra 6-4, 6-3.

Mayank Yadav of Ist B.A (Prog) took part in the Finesta National Tournament in Delhi 5th October 2015. He was direct qualifier to the main draw and lost to Anurag Nenwani 3-6, 3-6.

Mayank Yadav of Ist B.A (Prog) took part in the AITA Men’s National Ranking Tournament in Chandigarh 12th October 2015. He was among the top eight to qualify for the main draw.

In the National Championship Series organized by AITA, Mayank Yadav of Ist B.A (Prog) in Delhi from 30th November 2015. Mayank reached the Quarter Finals where he lost to Calvin Golmie of Chandigarh 5-7, 7-5, 5-7.

Mayank Yadav of Ist B.A (Prog) took part in the AITA Men’s National Ranking Tournament in Dehradun from 4th January 2016. Mayan reached the Second round of the Qualifying Rounds.

Mayank Yadav of Ist B.A (Prog) took part in the AITA Men’s National Ranking Tournament in Karnal 9th January 2016. Mayank also took part in the event from 25th January, 2016, where he fought a tough draw to reach the Quarterfinals where he lost to Lavish Nehra 7-5, 6-2. The city of Karnal hosted the third of the AITA Men’s National Ranking Tournament from 15th Feb 2016 and graduated to the Main Draw after winning Four Qualifying draw matches. He made his exit from the tournament in the Second Round of the main draw when he lost to Pallav Rousha 4-6, 7-6, 6-7.

Mayank Yadav of Ist B.A (Prog) took part in the AITA Men’s National Ranking Tournament in Dehradun from 22nd Feb 2016. Mayank qualified for the main draw after winning 3 matches and reached the main draw. He lost to Himanshu Sagar 2-6, 2-6 in the Pre Quarter Finals.

Mayank Yadav of Ist B.A (Prog) took part in the AITA Men’s National Ranking Tournament in Karnal from 29th Feb 2016. Mayank reached the Pre Quarter Finals.

Mayank Yadav of Ist B.A (Prog) will be competing in the forthcoming AITA Men’s National Ranking Tournament in Gwalior from 1st April 2016.  This tournament will feature the Top names of the country.

Mayank Yadav of Ist B.A (Prog) has had a tough calendar year in 2015-16 but his performance has not gone unnoticed as his effort have been rewarded by a sponsorship from the NGO, Sedeva. This sponsorship will enable him to travel to Brussels in Belgium for 3 months training followed by a couple of International Tours.

The self-motivated and ceaseless activities of over two dozen clubs and societies constitute a very important part of College life and offer a large variety of avenues for self expression. For each subject there is a Society that sponsors extra-curricular lectures and discussion and, in general, tries to stimulate interest in the subject. There are many other academic and cultural society and clubs covering wide range of activities, such as debating, dramatics, mountaineering, film and music appreciation, social service, photography and electronics.
