LADIES COMMON ROOM (LCR)
The Ladies Common Room, also referred to by its abbreviated name, LCR, is exclusively available for female students and can also be accessed and used by female staff, both teaching and non-teaching. The LCR encompasses a big hall with restroom facility and is a space that allows female students of the College to relax and unwind between class hours. Located in a serene corner of the College, the LCR is often used as a space to read and write, thereby figuratively serving as “A Room of One’s Own”. During afternoons and evenings, however, it comes alive with practice and rehearsal sessions of such societies like The Choreography Society. LCR is often frequented by day scholars for the aforementioned purposes. It has been designed to cater to the needs of privacy that many female students and staff members may feel in a co-educational space. It is open from 9 am to 5 pm from Monday to Saturday. Moreover, day scholars can take permission from College administration to stay here at night on special occasions such as during the span of the Annual Festival of the College. This ensures that female day scholars are not prevented from participating in and contributing to the overall life of College due to the limitations posed by their gendered navigation of public places and transportation at night. In the light of the same, the LCR plays an important role in making the campus more inclusive and egalitarian.
