PROSPECTUS FOR DIPLOMA COURSE


St. Stephen’s College offers part-time Diploma courses in the following languages for students of Delhi University as well as for the general public: French, German, Spanish (affliated to the Department of Germanic and Romance Studies, University of Delhi), and Chinese, Japanese and Korean (affliated to the Department of East Asian Studies, University of Delhi) and Arabic, Persian, Urdu (affliated to the University of Delhi) and Sanskrit (run by the College).

The University of Delhi conducts the examination and awards Diploma for French, Spanish, German Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Persian, and Urdu. A student will be admitted to only one course at a time. Applicants should carefully read this introductory notice and then fill out the attached application form. The College reserves the right to cancel any course before 1 September 2024.

 

Application Process

Admissions will be fully online and the forms will be available on the college website on 27 June 2024.

Applicants are to pay a Registration fee of Rs.500/- at the time of submitting the online application. They are also required to upload their photograph and signature in the required format.

Admission to German, French and Spanish is only through entrance test. Certificate in the relevant language from St. Stephen’s College/Delhi University/Certificate in the requisite language from institutions other than St. Stephen’s College/DU are eligible to appear for the test.

Admission to Chinese, Japanese and Korean there shall be no entrance test. Only students who have a certificate from Delhi University in the relevant language can apply for these courses.

Urdu, Arabic and Persian – 10+2 or its equivalent from any recognized Board/University with Certificate course from DU or any recognized University/ institution.

Tentative Calendar of Admissions

  • Online application: 27 June to 26 July 2024
  • Last date for submission of forms for admission: 26 July 2024
  • Entrance Test: 28 July 2024 (Timings: 09:30am to 10:30am)
  • First List: 02 August 2024
  • Second List: 07 August 2024
  • For Chinese and Japanese, admission list shall be put up on 30 July 2024.
  • Time period to deposit course fee: Within three days of the notification of admission list failing which admission will be cancelled.

(For enquiries, the office of the Centre for Languages will be open from Monday to Friday between 9:30 am-4:00pm).

Duration of the Course

  • Classes will begin from second week of August and will continue approximately until the end of of April/May 2024. Classes will be held according to the University calendar.

Language courses are part-time courses. Students enrolled in these courses will not be regular students of the College. They are not entitled to college identity cards, library facilities, hostel accommodation or any other facility open to regular students of this college. Those admitted, have to sign an undertaking to that effect. Students who come by car will have to pay separate parking fees. Monthly passes for this purpose can be bought from the office.

The college reserves the right to take disciplinary action against any student found violating college discipline. This includes expulsion from the course.

Course Fees: (Only Online Payment will be allowed)

Arabic, Persian and Urdu: Rs. 9,500/- (Indian Students), 15,000/- (Foreign Students)

Sanskrit: 8,000/- (Indian Students), 15,000/- (Foreign Students)

Chinese, Japanese and Korean: Rs. 17,000/-

All other languages: Rs 23,500/-

The course fee can be submitted by logging on to the portal using the registration id and password.

applicants who are admitted to the course have to bring a print-out of the online application form along with a self-attested copy of the Plus Two Mark sheet and certificate in the relevant language for verification. (Please note that fee once paid is non-refundable under any circumstance)

(Admission to these courses are also open to the regular students of St. Stephen’s College given they have a Certificate in the relevant language. They will get 10% fees concession)

German

Tuesday and Thursday 1pm – 4pm
Weekend Saturday 3pm – 6pm and Sunday 9am – 12pm

Spanish

Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday 9am – 11am
Weekend Saturday 3pm – 6pm and Sunday 9am-12pm

There will not be any entrance test for the following course

(Seats will be allotted on the basis of candidates who register first on the admission portal).

Japanese

Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday

Korean

Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday
4pm – 6pm


Urdu

Sanskrit

The timings for Sanskrit classes shall be intimated later.

The self-motivated and ceaseless activities of over two dozen clubs and societies constitute a very important part of College life and offer a large variety of avenues for self expression. For each subject there is a Society that sponsors extra-curricular lectures and discussion and, in general, tries to stimulate interest in the subject. There are many other academic and cultural society and clubs covering wide range of activities, such as debating, dramatics, mountaineering, film and music appreciation, social service, photography and electronics.
