ST. STEPHEN’S CENTRE FOR LANGUAGES
St. Stephen’s Centre for Languages, formerly known as School of Languages, is a self-financed Centre which has become an integral part of the College. The Centre intends to promote the study of various languages, literatures and cultures. Research on literatures and cultures has been introduced as an important constituent of the Centre from the academic session 2015-16. The Centre is constituted by two schools: School of Germanic and Romance Studies and School of Asian Studies.
The School of Germanic and Romance Studies (SGRS) offers Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma Courses in German, French, Spanish, and Italian. All the courses under the SGRS are affiliated to the Department of Germanic and Romance Studies, University of Delhi. Qualified faculty registered at the GRS Department of the University offer the various levels of language courses.
The School of Asian Studies (SAS) offers Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma Courses in Chinese Japanese, Sanskrit, Urdu and Persian. Certificate Course in Chinese and Japanese are affiliated to the Department of East Asian Studies, University of Delhi. The Centre has the approval of the EAS Department and the Academic Council of the University to affiliate Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses of these languages to the University. It has the approval for running Korean courses which had begun from the academic session (2016-17). St. Stephen’s College also runs Certificate courses in Sanskrit and Urdu and Persian languages as these departments are two among the constituent departments of College.
