PROSPECTUS FOR DIPLOMA COURSE


St. Stephen’s College offers part-time Diploma courses in the following languages for students of Delhi University as well as for the general public: French, German, Spanish (affiliated to the Department of Germanic and Romance Studies, University of Delhi), Chinese, and Japanese (affiliated to the Department of East Asian Studies, University of Delhi), Urdu and Persian (affiliated to the concerned Departments of the University of Delhi)..

The University of Delhi conducts the examination and awards Diploma for French, Spanish, German Chinese and Japanese. A student will be admitted to only one course at a time. Applicants should carefully read this introductory notice and then fill out the attached application form. The College reserves the right to cancel any course before 1 August 2016.

Application Process

Admissions will be fully online and the forms will be available on the college website on 20 June 2016.

Applicants are to pay a Registration fee of Rs.500/- at the time of submitting the online application

Eligibility

Direct Admission: Certificate in the relevant language from St. Stephen’s College/Delhi University (limited seats on a first come first served basis). Seats will be offered on the basis of the date of application. If a student has appeared for the Certificate examination from College/DU in 2015-16, she/he will be granted conditional admission. If upon declaration of result, she/he is found to have failed, the admission will be cancelled and the Course fee will be returned to the student.

Students who have taken a break after certificate course are not eligible for direct admission. They are required to appear for the entrance test.

Admission through Entrance Test: Students having the equivalent of a Certificate in the requisite language from other than St. Stephen’s College/DU are eligible to appear for the test.

Calendar of Admissions

  • Online application: 20 June to 05 July 2016
  • Last date for submission of forms for admission: 5 July 2016
  • First List (For Direct Admissions Category): 6 July 2016
  • Second (For Direct Admissions Category): 10 July 2016
  • Third List (For Direct Admissions Category): 14 July 2016
  • Entrance Test: 10 July 2016
  • List of admission through Entrance Test: 14 July 2016
  • Time period to deposit course fee: Within three days of the notification of admission list failing which admission will be cancelled.

(For enquiries, the office of the Centre for Languages will be open from Monday to Friday between 9:30 am-4:00pm)

Duration of the Course

  • Classes will begin from the first week of August and will continue approximately until the end of March 2017. Classes will be held according to the University calendar.

Language courses are part-time courses. Students enrolled in these courses will not be regular students of the College. They are not entitled to college library facilities, hostel accommodation or any other facility open to regular students of this college. Those admitted have to sign an undertaking to that effect. Students who come by car will have to pay separate parking fees. Monthly passes for this purpose can be bought from the office.

The college reserves the right to take disciplinary action against any student found violating college discipline. This includes expulsion from the course.

Course Fees: (Payable by bank challan to the Syndicate bank opposite the office of the Centre for Languages)

Chinese and Japanese: Rs 17,000/-

Urdu and Persian: Rs. 6000/- (Indian Students) Rs.10,000 (foreign students)

All other languages Rs 18,000

At the time of admission, applicants whose names appear in the list have to bring a print-out of the online application for along with a self-attested copy of the Plus Two Mark sheet for verification. The course fee can be submitted directly (through challan) to the Syndicate Bank opposite the office of the Centre for Languages.

(Please note that fee once paid is non-refundable under any circumstance)

(Admission to these courses are also open to the regular students of St. Stephen’s College given they have a Certificate in the relevant language. They will get 10% fees concession)

The self-motivated and ceaseless activities of over two dozen clubs and societies constitute a very important part of College life and offer a large variety of avenues for self expression. For each subject there is a Society that sponsors extra-curricular lectures and discussion and, in general, tries to stimulate interest in the subject. There are many other academic and cultural society and clubs covering wide range of activities, such as debating, dramatics, mountaineering, film and music appreciation, social service, photography and electronics.
